Love and War

We are pretty sure that Courtney Love was sent here from heaven because God loves tabloids, Minimum Gauge and Internet feuds. Love has taken to social media like a drunken moth to a flame, often incoherently babbling and usually insulting some famous person or another. Love apparently has been slinging barbs at Roots rocker-turned-painter-and-writer Ryan Adams, suggesting that he borrowed money from her while they were dating and never paid it back. Perhaps sensing an end to any chance he might ever have to become romantically involved with … well, anyone, Adams finally responded by saying, “I have never had any romantic, personal or financial involvement with Courtney Love.” This is far from the weirdest Love moment in the past few weeks — at an Oliver Stone film screening, Love says Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez was winking at and flirting with her, inviting her to visit him and his country. Not to be outdone, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad announced he has a huge man-crush on Ryan Adams and would love to someday make him his man-wife.

Petty’s “Virtual Tour”

In advance of next month’s release of a massive collection of Tom Petty live tracks (with the clever title, The Live Anthology), featuring concert footage and music from the past 30 years, it has been announced the singer/songwriter is set to embark on a “virtual tour.” Trumpeted as a “first of its kind event,” the Super Highway Tour is actually just an excuse for Petty and the Heartbreakers to not go out on the road and support the new release. Fans can buy “tickets” to the “tour” now and receive tracks and extras before the Nov. 22 boxset release date. The ticket (available through Ticketmaster) also earns fans access to a virtual tour merch booth. And for an extra $20, you’ll be able to buy $15 Budweiser drafts and a virtual drunk dude will come to your house and keep bumping into you while you try to listen.

Iggy’s, KISS’ Rock Hall Time?

The nominees for the next class of Rock & Roll Hall of Famers has been announced and it has a few names that fans have been clamoring to see for a while now. Detroit pioneers The Stooges and KISS are on the ballot this time. KISS has been eligible for almost 10 years so that must mean the braintrust at the Rock Hall actually listens to grumbling fans. Iggy Pop sucked up to the Hall last year by performing an awful tribute to Madonna. Also on the list this year: ABBA, Darlene Love, Donna Summer, Genesis, Jimmy Cliff, Laura Nyro, LL Cool J, Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Chantels and The Hollies. If ABBA, Donna Summer and LL Cool J get in before The Stooges and KISS, we suggest the shafted bands start their own Rock Hall just around the corner from the real one — just like Pete Rose!
