This Labor Day weekend, Linford Detweiler and Karin Bergquist of Folk greats Over the Rhine will again present their Nowhere Else Festival, a three-day celebration "overflowing with music, art, earth, sky" on their rural Clinton County farm, less than 50 miles east of Cincinnati.
Calling the event an "extended musical family reunion," the lineup features musicians, but also writers and artists.
In a letter on their website, Detweiler and Bergquist write:
This will be our fifth annual Nowhere Else Festival, and these gatherings have undoubtedly become some of the highlights of our career.
Thanks to all of you who have attended for helping us establish a world-class boutique music and arts festival that feels like an extended musical family reunion in a beautiful green space on our small farm in Ohio. It really is a festival unlike any other. There is room at this table for everyone.
We have already confirmed a truly amazing group of musicians, writers and artists. Feeling grateful. We are looking forward to being inspired and making many new connections and discoveries right along with the rest of you.
Headliners include Over the Rhine, of course, as well as Patty Griffin, Joe Henry, Mary Gauthier, Allison Russel and more spread across the 23-acre farm and an open-air tent.
The schedule also includes a VIP farm-to-table picnic, workshops, readings and art exhibits.
For example, Gauthier will be reading from her memoir and conducting a song workshop; Nikki Lerner will host a Gospel brunch and engage with attendees about how to start — and have — hard conversations; and Allison Moorer will be reading from her memoir, Blood and I Dream He Talks To Me.
COVID precautions will be in place. Detweiler and Bergquist are asking everyone to bring proof of vaccination or a negative COVID test taken within 72 hours of the fest for entry. Mask will be required indoors and artists and musicians may request the audience mask up as well. Free masks will be available.
Gates open 4 p.m. Friday, Sept. 3 for VIP ticketholders; 9 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 4 and Sunday, Sept. 5.
The farm is located at 190 Townsend Road, Martinsville, Ohio. Limited camping is available.
