The Heartless Bastards had fans stacked on top of each other last Christmastime at Northside Tavern (or so legend has it, since I couldn't get in) when they played a free two-night stand. You’ll have to pony up some dough this year, but the Bastards will again be home for the holidays (from their current headquarters in Austin), playing a show Saturday at the Southgate House in Newport.
It's their first area show since their stunning MidPoint Music Festival showcase under the Grammer's tent in September.
The J. Dorsey Blues Revival opens the all-ages 9:30 p.m. show. Both the Bastards and J. Dorsey won CEAs at the recent Cincinnati Entertainment Awards: HB for Best Musical Ambassador and JDBR for Best Blues.
The Bastards’ appearance on PBS’s Austin City Limits will reportedly air Jan. 23. Check austincitylimits.org to see a clip of the band performing the title song from The Mountain at the taping.
