Lil Red & the Rooster

Show your support this weekend for the Blues artists selected to represent Southwest Ohio at the 2019 International Blues Challenge in Memphis, Tennessee.

Also a fundraiser to help the artists with travel costs, the event features the band winners from the Dayton and Cincinnati Blues Challenge competitions — the Doug Hart Band and Johnny Fink and the Intrusion, respectively — who will perform Saturday (Jan. 12) on the Southgate House Revival’s Sanctuary stage. In the venue’s Lounge area, solo/duo Challenge winners Allen Talbott and Lil’ Red and the Rooster are set to perform.

The four acts (representing the Cincy Blues Society and Dayton Blues Society) head to Memphis later this month for the IBC, where they’ll perform and compete against artists from all over the world. It marks a return visit to the IBC for Cincinnati’s Johnny Fink and the Intrusion; the band also competed in 2016 and 2017 (Fink was a competitor in the “solo/duo” category in 2017, as well).

8 p.m. Saturday. $5. Southgate House Revival, 111 E. Sixth St., Newport, southgatehouse.com.
