Jimmy Buffett is Not — We Repeat, NOT — Coming to Riverbend in 2020

Fins down, my friends. But, no fear, Buffett will reappear in Cincinnati in 2021

The sound you hear is the sound of thousands of Parrotheads crying salty tears onto the rims of their margaritas because Jimmy Buffett and his Coral Reefer Band will not be making an appearance in Cincinnati until 2021.

Buffett's annual tour stop — and giant-ass messy tropical tailgate — outside of Riverbend Music Center has been moved from July 14, 2020 to July 13, 2021.

“Summer fun in Cincinnati doesn’t begin until Jimmy Buffett and the Coral Reefer Band come to town,” said Riverbend Executive Director Mike Smith about Buffett's annual show.

And this city loves their beachy music bum.

According to the annals of Buffett fandom’s salty-rimmed history, Cincinnati — or “Fincinnati,” depending on which way your lei leans — is the birthplace of the phrase “Parrothead.” In 1985, a Coral Reefer Band bassist remarked that the chillaxed, tropically costumed masses filling Kings Island’s TimberWolf amphitheater were in fact “not Deadheads” (obviously), but “Parrotheads” (presumably because they were wearing hats with parrots on them). The name stuck.

So, needless to say, Cincinnati has developed quite the following for everyone's favorite margarita musician. In fact, if you aren't a Parrothead, you probably know one, whether it's your uncle, neighbor or coworker. They're everywhere.

And they've been waiting for July 14, 2020 all year.

Now, they just have to make it to July 13, 2021.

If there is an upside to this bad news for Parrotheads, it's that the ever-shrewd businessman took this time to drop his first studio album in seven years, Life on the Flip Side.
