HOT: Kanye For President

Kanye West got on stage at the clusterfuck that was this year’s MTV Video Music Awards to accept his Video Vanguard Award (basically the program’s lifetime achievement honor) and delivered a meandering speech during which he seemed to go off in a million directions, barely made sense or followed through with a thought, had the crowd in attendance clapping enthusiastically to everything he said and then ended by saying he’ll be running for president in 2020. In other words, he did one of the best Donald Trump impersonations we’ve seen in a long time, mimicking The Donald’s meandering stump speeches (where he also often gets lost on his way to a point) almost perfectly. The only things missing were inflammatory anti-immigrant comments and an ill-fitting “Make America Great Again” hat.

WARM: Own a (Huge) Piece of Music History

Looking for the perfect present for that Pink Floyd fanatic on your Christmas list who has everything (and who happens to have a huge house with massively tall ceilings)? You’re in luck. Air Artists, a company based in the U.K. known for creating stage props for touring artists like Roger Waters, AC/DC and The Rolling Stones, is holding an “everything must go” auction to get rid of some of its big balloons and other items. The auction begins Saturday (via the-saleroom.com) and includes a giant 47-by-70-foot pig’s head and a 36-foot-tall teacher from one of Waters’ The Wall concerts in Berlin. A more historically-valuable pig has now reportedly been rescued and returned to the band, but you can still get this one:

COLD: Folk-Singing Scientist Suspended

A Folk singer in Canada, who also happens to work as an environmental scientist for a government agency, was recently suspended from his job after he recorded a protest song about Stephen Harper, current prime minister of Canada. The song by Tony Turner, who is a longtime member of Ottawa’s Folk music scene, criticized Harper for his lack of dedication to environmental concerns. It also, fittingly, criticizes the prime minister for “muzzling scientists and suppressing freedom of press,” according to The Globe and Mail. The reason given for Turner being put on administrative leave is that he broke the ethics code, which says public servants must do their job in a “non-partisan” manner. It surely has nothing to do with Harper being up for re-election in October.
