It was announced a few months ago that the MC50 tour — featuring MC5 guitarist Wayne Kramer and a supergroup backing band — would be coming to Cincinnati on Oct. 25 for a show at Bogart’s. The tour — celebrating the imminent 50th anniversary of the groundbreaking MC5 debut LP Kick Out the Jams — recently announced a few additions and changes.
The fantastic Detroit Garage Rock crew Detroit Cobras will open several dates, including the Cincy show. Man Or Astro-Man? and Starcrawler are opening other dates on the tour.
There’s also been a change in the band lineup for the tour. Billy Gould of Faith No More is replacing Dug Pinnick (King’s X) on bass. The rest of the touring group features Soundgarden guitarist Kim Thayil, Fugazi drummer Brendan Canty (who was recently in town for a show with his band Messthetics, which also includes Fugazi bassist Joe Lally) and frontman Marcus Durant (Zen Guerrilla).
The MC50 “family” still lists Pinnick as a member, alongside sometime-band members Matt Cameron (Pearl Jam/Soundgarden) and producer/musician Don Was (Was Not Was). A recent press release says that Was and Cameron will be appearing on “additional” MC50 dates, as will Hamilton, Ohio’s own Greg Dulli of Cincinnati music legends The Afghan Whigs (none of those dates have been announced yet).
