The album is slated for an Oct. 12 release, after which Pierre — who co-founded Motion City Soundtrack in Minneapolis in 1997 with guitarist Joshua Cain — will be touring extensively with a backing band.
The tour for In the Drink (which was produced by Cain) is coming to Cincinnati’s 20th Century Theater on Nov. 13. Tickets go on sale Saturday at 10 a.m. Click here for more info.
Pierre recently chatted with Billboard about how, after MCS came to a finish, he was planning on winding down and figuring out what to do with the rest of his life. Realizing his strongest skill was making music, the new album “just kind of happen,” he said.
“I think I flirted with the idea of (becoming) an accountant, but then my wife told me that's not a reality. That's work, And she was right,” Pierre told Billboard. “I had been kicking around the idea of doing something like this for a while, anyway. I had just never pulled the trigger."
Regarding MCS, Pierre said the band’s “split” was mostly out of a desire to get off of the road for a while.
“With us all starting to have kids we wanted to spend more time with our families and less time on the road,” he said. “Everybody else is doing that, but my plan backfired; I sort of accidentally wrote a record. Oops. Now I'm doing this again."
