A member of the St. Louis Hip Hop collective St. Lunatics, Nelly found huge success with his first solo album, Country Grammar, which went to No. 1, fueled by the success of the title track. His 2002 follow-up, Nellyville, produced the huge hits “Hot in Herre” and the Kelly Rowland-featuring “Dilemma.” Both singles spent several weeks at No. 1 and cemented his status as a bonafide Pop superstar.
Nelly won Grammys in the ensuing years and did some film and TV work, while also being involved with business ventures like clothing lines and his controversially-named energy drink Pimp Juice. He has also been involved in various charity endeavors over the years.
Nelly made headlines for less positive reasons last year when he was accused of rape. He denied the charge and the case was dropped because the accuser refused to cooperate. More assault accusations surfaced earlier this year after his first accuser filed a lawsuit for defamation (due to the rapper’s denials) and assault. Nelly has maintained his innocence.
Nelly is a part of a recently announced tour this summer that also features rapper Flo Rida and R&B/Pop group TLC.
Nelly’s original show at Northern Kentucky’s BB&T Arena in November last year was canceled. The original opener, Juvenile, is not on the make-up date this Friday (March 15). Pop singer Aaron Carter — recently in the headlines after defending his old friend Michael Jackson against recent sexual abuse accusations — will open the show instead at 7:30 p.m.
