• Friday, increasingly popular, nine-member, horn-heavy crew The Cincy Brass will release its debut album, Ain’t Nuttin Louder, which features 11 funky original tracks (and two covers). The album includes guest appearances by the legendary Bootsy Collins; the new conductor of the Cincinnati Pops, John Morris Russell; and a pair of local rappers that represent Cincy Hip Hop — Jibri (current from the Jazz/Rock/Hip Hop group Eclipse and charting solo artist in the early ’90s) and relative newcomer Buggs Tha Rocka, solo artist and member of Gold Shoes. The group’s release party is at MOTR Pub and will feature a performance of the new album (starting around 10 p.m.), followed by some of the Brass’ crowd-pleasing cover tunes. • On-the-rise Country artist Ryan Broshear — who lives in West Harrison, Ind., just across the Ohio border from Harrison, Ohio — and his band celebrate Broshear’s self-titled debut album (recorded at Curb Studios in Nashville) this Thursday with a show at Oxford’s somewhat new Indian Creek Tavern and Amphitheatre (www.indiancreektavern.net), which has showcased popular Country acts like Tracy Lawrence and Travis Tritt since opening in the summer of 2010. Broshear has the talent to reach those artist’s status with his endearing mix of Country music’s past and present. • Cincinnatians likely know the hard-to-forget name Serenity Fischer from her playwriting and Fringe Fest success, but they might soon know her just as well as an Indie Pop/Folk recording/performing artist. Fischer releases her new EP, Rogue Strawberry, this Friday at 7:30 p.m. at The Monastery studio/performance space in Walnut Hills. For the show, Fischer (who claims inspiration from Joni Mitchell, Tori Amos, Lena Horne and Billie Holiday) performs with percussionist Matt Halvorson and cellist Michael Gilbert Ronstadt (nephew of Linda Ronstadt). • The website Cincy Groove is a great resource for local music fans, with podcasts, interviews, reviews, news and photography centered around area performers and touring artists coming to town. Photographer/designer/artist Scott Preston founded the site four years ago. This Saturday, the site is hosting a fourth anniversary party at Covington’s Madison Theater. The 8 p.m. show is headlined by Ekoostik Hookah, one of Ohio’s all-time great “Jam bands.” Singer/songwriter Carole Walker (a longtime local musician now based in Columbus) and superb, local modern Bluegrass ensemble Hickory Robot open the show. Preston is also making the shindig a clothing and food drive for St Vincent DePaul and the Freestore Foodbank, so bring non-perishable food and toiletry items and clothing. • Local wünderkind Rosie Carson might be only 19, but her bountiful résumé could easily be mistaken as a career-highlights reel for someone who has spent 50 or more successful years in the biz. The singer/fiddle player has been intensely studying Celtic/Irish/Folk music since she was 8 and she’s traveled around the world to study, perform and collaborate. Carson (who joined veteran band The Graveblankets last year) has now formed her own local band, Rosie Carson and Friends. Featuring a mix of Bluegrass, Folk and Celtic music, plus sparkling four-part harmonies, the group makes its debut this Friday at Molly Malone’s (third floor) in Covington. Showtime is 8 p.m.
