Remember last week when I asked Facebook why O.T. Genasis was so stoked about having baking soda? No? OK. Awesome.

Maybe it’s that mix of Belizean heritage and Long Beach upbringing, but nothing is more clear about Genasis’ mindset than that he clearly doesn’t give a fuck about anything going on around him. In a recent interview, he basically said as much. Genasis told one Hip Hop blog that he refused to buy into the “artistry” of the business and preferred to stay in the mindset of a struggling hustler, where inspiration is infinite. That’s probably for the best as, by my projection, he has a long way to go still.

While Genasis’ “CoCo” (an ode to cocaine) is blowing up right now, it’s his first huge single to break through. So far, he’s only released four mixtapes and has yet to unleash a full studio album. Radio play and fan response seems to be begging for exactly that, though. Here’s hoping he doesn’t sell out too early. Based on what we’ve heard so far, and knowing he has the support of Busta Rhymes and French Montana, a full album could be awesome.

Until then, you can hit him up when he rolls through Cincinnati and maybe find a mixtape or two at the merch table.

O.T. Genasis plays at Inner Circle Sunday, Jan. 15. Find tickets/more info here .
