After a soggy yet successful MidPoint Music Festival and a brisk, two-night return of the reenergized Popopolis (replete with the Fountain Square Dance Team) you might be suffering from … October in Cincinnati!
Whatever the ailment, have no fear: Although many shows move indoors this week, the music continues. As the city reluctantly says hello to the slow, drab, grey days of autumn, we say goodbye to the warmer months of music fests and outdoor anythings with one last dip in the pool.
Symbiotic, which organizes arts and music shows in alternative places, will drain the swimming pool at Ziegler Park on Saturday for its newest installation art excursion: Six Feet Deep. The park’s empty public pool will feature swimming instruction la music with performances by Matthew Shelton, Wonky Tonk, Envelope (Columbus) and The Sundresses (pictured). his event continues Symbiotic’s quest “to expand the gallery space throughout the city of Cincinnati — utilizing the urban environment to its full potential.” Skinny dip! Who’s with me? Gates open 7:30 p.m.; music 8-11 p.m. Corner of Sycamore and 13th streets in Overthe-Rhine. $5. • If you are one of the few to barter for “experimental-folk band” Blitzen Trapper’s The Black River Killer EP (offered via CDR, only at shows) then you undoubtedly told all your friends and added it to your playlists, recalling the concert that you obtained this fine fleeced offering. If you are still on the hunt, well, now’s your chance. The Portland, Ore.-based band sets up camp for a night at the historic Southgate House in support of its now formally issued The Black River Killer EP. The new disc contains the title track “Black River Killer,” which can also be found smack dab in the middle of the previous, wildly popular full-length Furr. “Black River Killer” opens the EP and calls the listener to follow the Trapper onward. The band joined by Baltimore’s Wye Oak at the Southgate House on Oct. 14 (details here).
• Also, upstairs in Junie’s Lounge, you can check out Southgate House’s newest Artists in Residence, Chick Pimp, Coke Dealer at a Bar, who will no doubt display its unique brand of Psychedelic/Folk/Rap.
