There is a fair amount of evidence that Jam/Psych bands are primarily interested in mindless noodling on a musical bridge to nowhere, Electronic bands are satisfied to “unce-unce-unce” on varying themes with no discernible point and Prog bands have a tendency to disappear up their own asses with Classical suites and Middle Earth imagery.

Papadosio understands all of those stereotypical paradigms and assiduously avoids falling prey to any of them by cherry-picking the best elements from its chosen genres and weaving them into a unified creative vision that is based on a philosophical foundation of positivity and uplift.

That may seem like a tall order, but it’s one that Papadosio has been gleefully filling for an ever-expanding fan base since its 2006 formation. In the eight years since, the talented quintet — guitarist/vocalist/songwriter Anthony Thogmartin, bassist Rob McConnell, brother keyboardists Sam and Billy Brouse and drummer Mike Healy — has relocated from its Athens, Ohio, birthplace to its current base in Asheville, N.C., and recorded four engaging and compelling albums (including its latest and most expansive work, 2012’s masterful To End the Illusion of Separation). The band has also developed an impressive stage presence by way of impeccable musicianship and a state-of-the-art light display.

Papadosio has accomplished all of this with a relentless road commitment that keeps them in the tour bus for a third of the year, a good part of which is represented by its perpetual appearances at nearly every festival of renown — Camp Bisco, Electric Forest, Wakarusa, Sonic Bloom and many more.

In an age where music is more commodity than artistic achievement, Papadosio has found the proper balance of improvisational heat and compositional cool and married it to a flower-power-era message of inclusion, tolerance and enlightenment. Have another hit of sweet Papadosio sunshine.

PAPADOSIO plays Covington's Madison Theater Saturday, April 26. Tickets/more info here .
