Happy 10th birthday to Cincinnati rockers Vacation. The band came together in 2009, formed by singer/guitarist Jerri Queen (who has worked with local groups from The Read to Tweens). Vacation’s current lineup — with longtime bassist Evan Wolff, drummer Dylan McCartney (who fronts his own group, Mardou) and guitarist John Hoffman, a solo artist, member of Swim Team and, like Queen, a respected local recording engineer — has been in place for the past several years, touring North America coast-to-coast and also doing shows overseas.
In their decade of service, Vacation has released music on several indie labels, including the U.K.’s Drunken Sailor Records, Jersey-based Don Giovanni Records, California’s Recess Records and Bloomington, Indiana’s Let’s Pretend Records, which put out the band’s acclaimed 2018 album Mouth Sounds #2699. Vacation added to its extensive discography earlier this year with the release of Zen Quality Seed Crystal, which came out on vinyl through Detroit’s Salinas Records and was released on cassette through Cincinnati’s own tapes-only label Wasted Tapes.
Vacation will celebrate its 10th birthday with a hometown show/party/rockathon this Thursday, Oct. 10 at Northside Yacht Club. R.Ring, Flesh Mother and Kneeling in Piss will also perform. Tickets for the 9 p.m. show are available via cincyticket.com for $8; it’s $10 at the door.
Visuals for Thursday’s show will be provided by Channel 77, which made a music video for Mouth Sounds track “Action Road.”
