¯ Greater Cincinnati's greatest Outlaw Country performer, Dallas Moore, has a new CD officially coming out this weekend (he did sell some copies when his band recently opened for pal and Outlaw Country legend, David Alan Coe). Tales from a Road King (no doubt a reference to Moore's rigorous performance schedule) gets the proper release party treatment Friday when the band plays Yardbirds Southern BBQ in Trenton, Ohio. The CD was co-produced by Dallas (a first) and Ken "Mr. K" Glidewell of Big In Iowa and local radio fame. Can't make it? ¯ Cincinnati native Jenn Weber is also hosting a release party this weekend. The 22-year-old Christian music singer/songwriter moved to Nashville four years ago, honing her craft and trying to break into the biz. She secured management and a record deal within seven months of moving to Music City, and ultimately landed a Top 10 single on Inspirational Christian Radio. Capitalizing on the attention, Weber toured and released an EP.
Now she has a full-length ready — World of Wonder — that will be available at her free release show this Saturday at 5:30 p.m. at the Montgomery Community Church. (myspace.com/jennweber)
¯ Musical collective The Ceilidh Group has put together a new CD of children's songs performed by various local artists. The CD — due this spring — is titled Isn't It a Wonder and will feature artists like Jake Speed, Papa Joe, Joel Caithamer, Nancy Bick Clark, Greg Mahan, Zak Morgan, Joan Whittaker, Prudence Hunt, Roberta Schultz, Dave Hawkins and many others. Wednesday at 7 p.m., a preview concert takes place at The Village Lantern (R.G. Cribbet Recreation Hall, 5903 Hawthorne Ave., Fairfax), featuring samples from the CD as well as live performances by some of the artists featured, including Caithamer, Hawkins, Hunt, Tim Kelly and Papa Joe.
¯ "Gypsy Jazz" foursome The Faux Frenchmen will perform a special Valentine's Day show at Sitwell's in Clifton this Friday. Love songs, of course, will be the theme of the set, which will also feature special guest vocalist Annette Shepherd. The 9 p.m. show will cost you $5, but, besides some great, Django-esque tuneage, that also includes a Valentine's Day cookie and a glass of champagne. ¯ If you're headed out with your sweetie on Valentine's Day proper (that's Thursday for all you negligent lovers out there), stop by Sidewinder Coffee & Tea in Northside for "Pour Your Heart Out," a night of art, music and poetry, featuring local musicians Ma Crow & Laura Hasek, Matt Shelton, Gregory Morris and Loop Swoop & Pull. ¯ Local rockers The Way Downs are playing their last show this Friday at The Comet in Northside. The band is splitting due to singer/harp-wailer Lee Gallagher's (also known for previous bands like Mr. Scarlet's Plume and greatmodern) eminent relocation to San Francisco.
