This summer, sublime Cincinnati Indie Pop foursome The Ophelias saw their latest album, Almost, released via respected independent label Joyful Noise. Yesterday, the group debuted a new music video for the album track “Moon Like Sour Candy.”

The video was released in advance of The Ophelias’ tour dates next month with WHY? and Lala Lala. A fellow Cincinnatian, WHY?’s Yoni Wolf produced Almost. After a Nov. 24 date in Pittsburgh on that tour (which is in honor of the 10th anniversary of WHY?’s breakthrough album, Alopecia), the band returns to Cincinnati on Nov. 25 for a free Thanksgiving-weekend show at MOTR Pub.

In a press release, singer/songwriter Spencer Peppet and director Jo Shaffer say, " 'Moon Like Sour Candy' is based on Midwestern longing and all four of the elements. The video takes everyday textures and pushes them into surreal territory."

Upon its release in July, Almost scored overwhelmingly positive press from some major outlets. Veteran music critic Jon Pareles chose the group’s “Lunar Rover” as one of his picks for New York Times’ music column “The Playlist,” writing "There’s a mesmerizing intricacy to the indie-rock understatement of 'Lunar Rover.' Those three chords thicken with ambiguous layers of polytonality, the beat mutates with ever-shifting details (note the cymbals) and multitudes of violin parts entwine everything else. Given a chance, it’s immersive.” NPR Music and Stereogum also gave the group props and The Ophelias' roadwork in support of the LP has included West Coast dates with The Low Anthem.
