Cincinnati Shoegaze/Dream Pop/Dreamgaze band Sungaze recently released its alluring debut single, “New Familiar,” which was followed by the premiere of the track’s equally captivating music video via liveeyetv.org.

With echoes of Stone Roses and Mazzy Star, the song and video swell and swirl with the blissful dizziness of a new love affair, and that’s no coincidence.  The track was inspired by the “whirlwind romance” of Sungaze founders Ian Hilvert (guitar/vocals) and Ivory Snow (keys/vocals), while the video was shot at locations important to their relationship — in Elk River Falls, North Carolina, where the pair first met, and in Hocking Hills, Ohio, where they were married this past September.

In the story accompanying the premiere at liveeyetv.org, the band tells a spooky story about the video’s filming that is also perfectly "on-brand" with the song’s haunted, ethereal vibe.

Snow says that Sungaze — which has been performing live for the past year-plus (around Cincinnati and beyond) and also features drummer Tyler Mechlem — will be releasing its debut album, Light in All of It, later this year. The group’s next local appearance is Feb. 22, when Sungaze joins Houston, Texas group Wild Moccasins and fellow locals Hateflirt for a free show at MOTR Pub.
