Although The Dig has been together in name since 2008, the roots of the band go all the way back to the sixth grade musical pursuits of guitarist/vocalist Emile Mosseri and bassist/vocalist David Baldwin. After several teenage band adventures, Mosseri and Baldwin connected with guitarist/keyboardist Erick Eiser in high school; the trio continued to write music together through their college years and ultimately relocated to New York City where they formed The Dig with drummer Jamie Alegre in 2008.

After a variety of residencies and opening slots, The Dig began to amass a sizable and loyal audience, leading to sold-out club dates at home and nationwide touring opportunities in support of bands including The Antlers, Portugal. The Man, Thrice, The Walkmen and The Editors. In 2010, The Dig released their Bryce Goggin-produced debut album, Electric Toys, which LastFM pronounced one of the year’s best albums. The album’s acclaim raised the band’s profile even higher, resulting in support slots for Liam Gallagher’s Beady Eye, Glassvegas and The Postelles, among others, as well as music placement on Gossip Girl and The Vampire Diaries.

The Dig is currently putting the finishing touches on its sophomore album, tentatively scheduled for release early this year. Given the glowing accolades afforded Electric Toys, it’s safe to assume that The Dig won’t stray too far from the infectious Strokes-meets-Coldplay, Indie Pop-laced-with-Prog template they’ve constructed out of guitars, keyboards and pure Rock energy.

THE DIG plays MOTR Pub Wednesday, Jan. 18 with guests THE READY STANCE.
