Grateful Dead legend Bob Weir is returning to Cincinnati this spring, this time for a performance with his Wolf Bros band project. The trio also features esteemed veteran producer/musician Don Was on bass and drummer Jay Lane, a longtime member of Weir's group RatDog who has also played with Phil Lesh and Friends.
Bob Weir and Wolf Bros are scheduled to play Taft Theatre on March 6. Tickets go on sale this Friday (Jan. 18) at 10 a.m. through Ticketmaster.
The Wolf Bros band — which plays the music of the Dead and more — did a sold-out run of dates last fall. PopMatters praised Weir and Co., saying that “finding new sonic territory to explore after more than 50 years on the ‘Golden Road’ to unlimited musical devotion is a tall order, but Bob Weir is doing it again with his Wolf Bros.”
Of the tour and band, in a press release, Weir says, “This is more fun than a frog in a glass of milk. Don is all over his upright, and Jay needs to somehow be kept in line at times, but it’s all falling together nicely."
In January of 2017, Weir played Cincinnati's MusicNOW, the unique and ongoing "New Music" festival founded by Bryce Dessner of The National. For MusicNOW in 2017, Weir performed at the Aronoff Center with Campfire Boys, which featured Aaron Dessner, Scott Devendorf and Bryan Devendorf of The National (the Dessners and Scott Devendorf were also featured on Weir's 2016 solo album, Blue Mountain).
Last year, Dead & Company — featuring Weir and fellow Dead members Bill Kreutzmann and Mickey Hart, plus John Mayer, Oteil Burbridge and Jeff Chimenti — played at Cincinnati's Riverbend.
