When hearing about bands made up of musicians in their twenties and thirties, it is not unusual to hear a phrase along the lines of, “Our parents had an awesome record collection.”

Such is the case with The Spring Standards. The Indie Folk Rock trio, featuring Heather Robb, James Cleare and James Smith, dug deep into their progenitors’ stacks of albums while growing up.

When they all met as teenagers, the future members of The Spring Standards would hook up to work out vocal harmonies together. But, as they became adults, life got in the way and they went their separate ways. Eventually, however, Robb, Cleare and Smith reunited in Brooklyn, N.Y., and eventually formed their trio.

Each member of The Spring Standards plays multiple instruments: Guitar, piano and bass are accompanied by all three musicians having their own drum kit onstage, connected in the middle. Above that, of course, the group’s bright and infectious music is buoyed by their lead and harmony vocals.

The Spring Standards have stayed free of record label involvement when it comes to their recordings, yet they have appeared on the Conan O’Brien’s show and Mountain Stage. Their latest album is Live from Delaware.

THE SPRING STANDARDS perform Sunday, July 7 at MOTR Pub in Over-the-Rhine. Check out performance times and get venue details here.
