The SteelDrivers are a hot group on the Roots music circuit these days. The band is made up of various Bluegrass and Country music veterans who are out to bring intensity in sound, great musicianship, solid songwriting and an open mind to the Bluegrass genre.
The Grammy-nominated SteelDrivers come to the Southgate House Revival this week on a roll, having been recently nominated for the International Bluegrass Music Association’s (IBMA) Album of the Year award for their latest effort, Hammer Down. They didn’t win (the award went to Balsam Range for their album Papertown), but The SteelDrivers were a part of the buzz surrounding the recent IBMA Week convention that was hosted for the first time in Raleigh, N.C., two weeks ago. While there, the band played a successful headlining gig at the open-air Wide Open Bluegrass Street Fest, which drew large crowds to downtown Raleigh.
The SteelDrivers are favorites with both fans and fellow musicians alike. The founding members include Nashville, Tenn., veteran Tammy Rogers on fiddle, songwriting and lead vocals, Richard Bailey on banjo and bassist Mike Fleming. On the mandolin is the Grammy-winning studio maven Brent Truitt and bringing the bluesy soul to the group is songwriter, guitarist and lead vocalist Gary Nichols.
THE STEELDRIVERS play Friday, Oct. 11 at Southgate House Revival in Newport. Buy tickets, check out performance times and get venue details here .
