The Texas Guitar Women

Nov. 21 • McAuley High School Theatre

For the most part, when people think of contemporary virtuoso Blues and Roots music guitar players they likely think of male performers — Eric Clapton, Ry Cooder, Buddy Guy, Robert Cray, etc. But, of course, the music world is often a sexist one (purposefully or not), and there's no shortage of phenomenal female guitarists who could give each of those dudes a run for their money — Peggy Jones, Bonnie Raitt, Debbie Davies, Cincy’s own Kelly Richey, etc.

On Saturday, Blues/Roots fans will be able to catch an entire bill made up of masterful female musicians as the “Texas Guitar Women” come to the McAuley High School Theatre for an 8 p.m. show. Presented by the nonprofit Greater Cincinnati Performing Arts Society, the show features Grammy-winning slide and dobro player Cindy Cashdollar (the bandleader) alongside acclaimed six-stringers Carolyn Wonderland and Sue Foley, both considered among the best in their field. Keeping with the testosterone-free theme, the rhythm section features award-winning bassist Sarah Brown and drummer Lisa Pankratz, who has played with the likes of Billy Joe Shaver and Deke Dickerson.

Tickets are $25 in advance, $30 day of show.
