Cincinnati modern Funk master Freekbass has been having some fun on the road lately. This past Sunday, he sat in on bass with Umphrey's McGee for a cover of Prince’s “Controversy” in Knoxville, Tenn., and he’s been doing some dates as part of the Joe Marcinek Band, which has featured legendary musicians like Melvin Seals, Bernie Worrell, George Porter Jr., Ivan Neville.

Freekbass, of course, is still having fun with his own crew, something wildly evident in the recently unveiled Funkzilla-themed video for his latest single, “Steppin Outta Line,” which was filmed locally at the American Sign Museum and premiered Monday on the website for Bass Player magazine. The vibrant “Steppin Outta Line” is a continuation of the collaborations first glimpsed in his previous single, “Love In Your Pocket” — “Steppin” was also produced and co-written by former Cincy musician Itaal Shur (he also plays keys/synths on the track) and Turkuaz singer Sammi Garret also returns for a guest spin on the new song. The track and video also feature special guest Lonnie Marshall of longtime L.A. Alt/Funk/Rock crew Weapon of Choice.

The video is dedicated to Samantha Cobb, a young local woman who died earlier this summer following a motorcycle accident.

Catch Freekbass tonight (Aug. 24) at Urban Artifact’s big Bewilderfest. Get more details here.
