Address: 148 Mulberry St., Over-the-Rhine
Owner: Lawrence I. Rhodes
Property Value: $7,100
Comments: With a wonderful view of the city and newly replaced sidewalks on a street lined with young trees, this two-family dwelling would be a steal at $7,100 — if it were habitable.
This two-story structure dates back to 1865 and definitely maintains a certain rustic "charm" with its overgrown porches and yard. The spacious 1,808-square-foot home boasts a delightful breeze accommodated by the many broken windows throughout the building.
The building will be torn down due to the owner's failure to meet the standards required for a vacant building maintenance license, according to Dave Edwards of the city of Cincinnati's Department of Buildings and Inspections. Edwards condemned the building May 7, citing falling plaster, plumbing and electrical systems in need of replacement, missing front steps, exposure of the interior to elements and other violations.
BLIGHT OF THE WEEK is an effort to highlight the problem of abandoned buildings — and who's responsible for them.
