The Rev. Anthony Hill, pastor of Bethel #2 Apostolic Pentecostal Church, says the two-story building was the home of the church's former pastor until he died a few years ago.
"I think we're going to wind up tearing it down," Hill says. "I think the demolishing costs would be less than the rehab costs."
The original site of the church was also on Denham Street, but it had to be torn down about five or six years ago because it was so old, according to Hill.
The church hasn't abandoned the property and intends to deal with it, Hill says.
"We don't intend to leave the thing just sitting there," he says.
The building is in rather bad shape, according to a report from the city of Cincinnati Department of Buildings and Inspections.
"This building has serious structural failures," the report says. "The foundation has failed, allowing water to infiltrate the structure."
The Department of Buildings and Inspections has ordered the building condemned and ordered the owner to either demolish it or correct dangerous and unsafe conditions in accordance with the city building code.
BLIGHT OF THE WEEK is an effort to highlight the problem of abandoned buildings — and who's responsible for them.
