Comments: The building at 3467 Harvey Ave. has been condemned, according to David Edwards, supervisor of inspections for the Cincinnati Buildings and Inspections Department.
"It's been sitting for quite a few years" he says.
Edwards says the building is missing gutters and downspouts and has broken windows, a roof that leaks and other problems.
"It's just in general disrepair," Edwards says. "That's the reason it was condemned."
The building consists of three stories and is zoned for use as a three-family dwelling, according to the Hamilton County Auditor's Office.
The owner, Melvin Posey, says he is trying to sell the house, and several people have shown interest in looking at it. In the past, he says, it had been rented.
Posey says he plans to do some repairs to the outside of the building and would have rehabbed it himself if he had the money to do so. He says the building is not abandoned, just closed up.
Posey believes the building could be revitalized.
"If somebody has the money to do it, they could do it," he says.
BLIGHT OF THE WEEK is an effort to highlight the problem of abandoned buildings — and who's responsible for them.
