Abortion-Rights and Anti-Abortion Groups in Ohio React to Barrett Confirmation

Ohio organizations on both sides of the abortion debate spoke out this week following the confirmation of Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court of the United States.

Ohio organizations on both sides of the abortion debate spoke out this week following the confirmation of Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court of the United States.

Ohio Right to Life President Mike Gonidakis called the confirmation a “victory for women everywhere,” and a step toward abolishing Roe v. Wade, the Supreme Court case that legalized abortion nationwide.

“The era of Roe v. Wade is swiftly drawing to a close,” Gonidakis said. “It’s time to begin building a post-Roe America.”

Ohio’s chapter of NARAL Pro-Choice had asked that the vote be postponed until after Inauguration Day, saying the “everything from the basic human right to abortion and bodily autonomy, to civil rights and voting rights,” were at stake with the court vacancy.

Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine applauded the confirmation and called Barrett “both highly qualified and highly respected.”
