Amy Hunter

[cool cook]

There’s an important mantra in a recent film: “Anyone can cook.” Amy Hunter believes that wholeheartedly. She also believes everyone can get better — and enjoy it more — with a little help.

Enter the Creations Community Cooking Classes at the Midwest Culinary Institute (MCI) at Cincinnati State, for which Hunter is the coordinator. The classes, presented by Kroger, are hands-on, practical and fun programs for literally anyone in the community: from novice chefs to those wanting to perfect their craft to even children dabbling in the kitchen for the first time.

Q: What’s the coolest thing about you?
Hunter: Because of what I do and have done, I’ve managed to befriend a wonderful community of chefs, artists, writers and creative people who make my life in Cincinnati so much richer and more vibrant than I ever expected it to be.

Q: What’s the coolest thing about helping people express themselves with food?
Hunter: There are so many things going on locally and globally that we’re able to showcase and share with our guests. Just being a part of MCI and exposing cooks of all ages and interests to that gorgeous facility and our talented faculty is so very cool.

Q: Who’s the coolest person you know?
Hunter: Annette de Cavel. Everyone knows her husband Jean-Robert is cool. Annette I call the Wolf, because like Harvey Keitel’s character in Pulp Fiction she can assess a situation in a matter of moments and come up with a solution just as quickly. When you want something done and done well, Annette is the one to call.
