In a world filled with sequels, prequels and spin-offs developed off the flimsiest of premises, Annabelle arrives with solidly built awareness thanks to the presence of the titular doll in last year’s horror release The Conjuring from James Wan (Saw). The crazy-eyed doll sat behind glass in the private room of the husband and wife team of supernatural investigators, tempting and teasing audiences with questions about her story. Director John R. Leonetti (The Butterfly Effect 2) and writer Gary Dauberman (Bloodmonkey) fill in a few of the gaps as the vintage doll winds up involved in a satanic cult’s home invasion of a couple (Ward Horton and Annabelle Wallis) expecting their first child.
