Artist Abigail Portner’s drawings and paintings have long been intertwined with the work of her brother, Dave Portner, member and co-founder of the Experimental Psychedelic band Animal Collective. Her work is both dreamy and eerie at the same time — often focusing on images of children, animals and masked revelers.
In addition to creating various album covers, posters, T-shirts and other musical ephemera, Portner has designed stage sets and art directed music videos. Wednesday, Thunder-Sky Gallery, Inc. will host a reception for Portner’s collaboration with Dayton’s Habitat Skateboards featuring a short film focusing on her artwork and the colorways she designed for Habitat’s Natural Selection Artist Collaboration Series shoes. Also on display will be Alien Workshop skate decks designed by Abby and Dave.
Stop by The Comet afterward for a listening party by secret guest DJs (possibly members of Animal Collective?). 7-9 p.m. Free. 4573 Hamilton Ave., Northside, raymondthundersky.org.
