Aya Uekawa’s recently opened Sanctuary Dreams at the Contemporary Arts Center is an enigmatic and psychological exhibition of miniature paintings, a monumental drawing of a unicorn and a hushed bubbling fountain encrusted in crystals. Looking out of the paintings are solemn-faced women in elaborate headdresses that are rife with cultural references. How these different recent endeavors by Uekawa fit into a whole gallery experience may feel elusive and even coy, so join CAC Director and Chief Curator Raphaela Platow this Saturday at 4 p.m. for a gallery talk to hear her firsthand readings of the art. It’s free for members and just the cost of the CAC’s admission for nonmembers ($5.50 for students, $7.50 for adults).
