The Brighton arts district has been killing it lately, and this weekend’s monthly First Saturday art crawl offers three more exhibitions at independent artist-ran spaces for your art viewing pleasure. The recent additions of Museum Gallery / Gallery Museum (MG/GM, 2161 Central Ave.) and Third Party Gallery (2159 Central Ave.) to the neighborhood — not to mention Brighton’s longtime anchor, Semantics (1107 Harrison Ave.) — have been drawing an increasing crowd the past several months, despite the usual holiday/post-holiday lull in gallery exhibitions. A new bar in the neighborhood, The Rake’s End (2141 Central Ave.), probably doesn’t hurt either. MG/GM hosts Be Happy. Dammit., an exhibition curated by artist/gallery member Sarah Blyth-Stephens on the (ambitious) subject of happiness. Third Party’s exhibition examines the intersection of contemporary photography and the internet in Free Transform, and Semantics will feature the work of Chris Reeves, co-founder of both MG/GM and Third Party. Needless to say it’ll be an intimate evening of area arts stakeholders. Shows open 7-10 p.m. Saturday.
