Jim Wainscott’s series of paintings currently on display at designsmithgallery break down daily views of cities, nature and interiors into meticulous details. All of the circular paintings on panel are built up with acrylic and polymer mediums; he paints each object and element of the space so they are sandwiched between layers of clear medium. That the realistic images quiver apart from one element to the next shows consideration for the ephemeral quality of what is being portrayed. Wainscott paints with the delicacy and precision of a miniature painter, where each twig, stitch in a blanket, or bit of litter on a sidewalk is painted in detail. Thoughtfully titled Out of Time, all manner of minutiae is suspended in luminous, thickly painted efforts. Exhibition continues most Friday and Saturday afternoons or by appointment through Jan. 24.
