Art: Self-Reliance at ArtWorks

Since ArtWorks relocated to the corner of Central Parkway and Jackson Street at the front of Over-the-Rhine, its energies have been devoted to highly public art projects around the city (including the newly unveiled artist-designed bike racks that are going up). This Thursday will inaugurate the new location’s project gallery space with a one-night-only gallery event.

A solo project by Tony Luensman entitled Self-Reliance will grace brand-new long white walls with a series of twenty photographs that a press release warns “contains mature content.” Luensman typically sublimates rather than highlights sexuality in his multimedia exhibitions, but if the one preview photo of bare legs with a grove of trees collaged across a shin is anything to judge by, I expect a new level of vulnerability to come through in this project. Masterful at playing one medium against experiments in another, Luensman’s photos will be accompanied by a number of sculptural objects.

The event is scheduled from 5-8 p.m. Thursday. Get details here.
