The Cincinnati area’s love affair with street art continues this week with the arrival of Portuguese artist Alexandre Farto (aka Vhils) for a residency at Covington’s BLDG (30 West Pike St.). The Northern Kentucky gallery and studio frequently releases limited-edition print projects and occasionally hosts sleek, urban-influenced art exhibitions. Along with scouting sites around the Tristate area to create an outdoor public artwork in association with the Contemporary Arts Center, Vhils will be working with BLDG founder Mike Amann to produce a set of limited-edition pieces. His unique approach to creating large-scale portraits in low relief on distressed walls in public spaces appear in cities worldwide.
The residency culminates with a demonstration of the artist’s techniques, which will be open to the public Friday from 7-11 p.m. at the gallery. Go here for event details and gallery information.
