Boston's Babaloo are certainly one of the more unique and worldly acts you'll find gracing a stage in Cincinnati, even at the wonderfully eclectic BarrelHouse. While impossible to exactly pinpoint their sound, the group like the term "Punk Mambo" (check their Web site at punkmambo.com). Hardcore Juju is the Babaloo's latest release and it finds the group meshing World Beat styles like Samba, Mambo and Merengeu, into an infectious, energetic blend, with lyrics sung and chanted in everything from Spanish to Arabic to Swahili. If you're up for something different, tonight's your night. And, if you're up for some dancing without a droning Disco beat, this is the place to be.
At the BarrelHouse on Wednesday (free show). -M.B.
