This musical-drama from writer-director Kasi Lemmons (based on the work of Langston Hughes) tags along with a Baltimore teen (Jacob Latimore), who is sent to New York to stay with his grandparents (Forest Whitaker and Angela Bassett). This early Christmas release is all about broken families seeking to become whole again, but the real gift will certainly be the voices of Jennifer Hudson, Mary J. Blige and Tyrese Gibson, among others, raised to the heavens. Opens wide Nov. 27. (PG) Not screened in time for review
