The evolution of local band Cari Clara continues and enters an exciting new phase in 2010. The project began in 2002 as a recording/songwriting outlet for former Simpletons frontman Eric Diedrichs. While still recording most of the instrumentation solo, Diedrichs eventually assembled a backing band for live shows.
Diedrichs now resides in Lexington but manages to return home on a regular basis for performances. Now he’ll have even more reason as Cari Clara’s recently announced deal with Deep Elm Records should have him touring more frequently. —-To kick things off, Deep Elm is issuing CC’s It's Our Hearts They're After long-player and the EPs Miniature American Model Society and You Better Run.
If the name “Deep Elm” sounds familiar to local music fans, it’s probably because the Charlotte, NC-based imprint is also label home to roots rockers 500 Miles to Memphis, as well as the recent collaboration EP from 500MtM’s Ryan Malott and singer Kelly Thomas. Deep Elm has also put out releases by the likes of The Appleseed Cast and Desoto Jones, as well as compilations featuring Jimmy Eat World, Annuals, Further Seems Forever, Samiam, Movielife and others.
Diedrichs says he is currently working on new material but, as of now, there is no new release scheduled. Stay tuned …
