Cold Weather Takeout for Nights with Family and Friends

As we cozy up and dine at home this freezing November, it doesn’t mean we have to cook. With deals like these, it’s tempting (and cheap) to carryout. Especially with places like Germano's, Daveed's at 934, Tucker's, Mac's Pizza Pub, Troy's and Rio Grande

As we cozy up and dine at home this freezing November, it doesn’t mean we have to cook. With deals like these, it’s tempting (and cheap) to carryout.

Germano’s Ristorante/Montgomery

Even though Germano’s, which has some of the most authentic Italian cuisine in the city, may be slightly expensive when it comes to indoor dining, their family-style carryout is cheap. For just $16 you can get Cheese Ravioli Pomodoro or Fettuccine Alfredo/Marinara that serves four. Other entrees, like Chicken Piccata or Chicken Parmigiano with Fettuccine, are pricier at $20 but sill a deal. 513-794-1155.

Daveed’s at 934/Mt. Adams

Not all of us can afford to dine-in at Daveed’s, but most of us can, ironically, afford the catering. If you’re serving up to 10 people, it’s a great gourmet deal. Consider the Wild Mushroom Soup that serves 10 ($35), the Honey Glazed Sliced Duck Breast ($65), sides like Gratin of Potatoes with Shallot Parmigiano ($35) or sandwiches including Capocolla Salami & Provolone or Vegetarian on request ($80). You may find it’s cheaper than cooking. 513-721-2665 (Call in advance).

Tucker’s/Downtown

Featured in Gourmet magazine this October, Tucker’s is Overthe-Rhine’s oldest restaurant. It’s also priced to be affordable to everyone. Order in some of the heartiest Vegetarian Chili around with plenty of onions and cheese for just $4, the Veggie Chili Coney for $2 or the Grilled Chicken — an Amish chicken breast with Swiss cheese and grilled portobello for only $5.25. The Hamburger ($1.75) and Grilled Cheese ($3) are ideal for kids as well. 513-721-7123.

Mac’s Pizza Pub/Clifton

An article about ordering in isn’t much fun without at least one pizza place. Mac’s Pizza Pub is one of the best in the city, voted “Best Pizza in Clifton” by UC students in a blind taste test and one of the Top 10 vegan-friendly pizza places in the U.S. by PETA. Not bad recommendations. The 16-inch large could feed a small family at just $16.49. And you can choose from several yummy options, including the Mac-Attack Pizza, with spicy ground beef, jalapeños, double pepperoni and lots of cheese. 513-241-MACS.

Troy’s Café/West Chester

Troy’s Café, which just opened this year, offers great gourmet comfort food on the cheap. It offers diishes like Sundried Tomato Meatballs and Spaghetti ($7) and Grilled Cheese with vine-ripe tomato, Applewood bacon and brie ($6). They also offer catering. 513-860-3206.

Rio Grande/Newport

If you’re in the mood for Mexican, it doesn’t get much cheaper and better than Rio Grande in Newport. A heaping plate of Beef and Bean Nachos is only $4.99. An order of Fajitas that could feed three is a mere $9.99 or $17.99 for a double order that could feed your family for quite some time. 859-292-8750.
