Comedian Darrell Joyce loves an audience, no matter the venue. Cruise ships, corporate gigs or comedy clubs — he likes the variety. “It’s boring if you’re doing the same thing all of the time,” he says. “I think I need to have that variety of young and old audiences. And there’s a big difference between an audience that paid to see you and one that didn’t.” Still, that mix doesn’t cover all of his creative aspirations.

“I’m going to start blogging,” he says. “I’ve been writing a lot of stuff when I’ve had a lot of downtime. I sit and I write, I get things out of my head, that’s where it usually starts.” Those topics are usually a little heavier, involving Joyce’s opinions on society and politics. On stage it’s a little less intense and reflect the other side of Joyce’s personality, a side that is mischievous and freewheeling. “I’m going to do (crazy) things, as stupid as they sound,” he says. “Like going to a football game in sub-zero weather, taking off my shirt and painting a number on my chest. I’m gonna do it.” Joyce performs Thursday-Sunday at The Funny Bone on the Levee. 859-957-2000.
