Like a lot of comedians, Tulsa native Ike Witty fled L.A. loving comedy but tired of the Southern California grind. He moved back to Oklahoma, recharged, and is now heading back to Hollywood to pursue comedy writing.
“I almost got a job on Gary Unmarried … but the creator of the show and the show-runner both got fired," he says, "so everything fell through.” He will also continue to perform stand-up in L.A, which will give him more opportunities to try out new bits and rework older ones. “I find that just naturally the older stuff falls off over the course of a couple of years,” he notes. “Even when you feel like you haven’t written a lot, you look and realize ‘hey, I have all these jokes.’”
That includes what Witty describes as “the usual self-deprecation and the awkward positions I put myself in. Pretty goofy stuff.” For a sampling if his canon, fans can check out his new CD, Zero Balance, which was released earlier this year.
Ike Witty performs at Go Bananas in Montgomery Thursday through Sunday. Showtime is 8 p.m. each night, with an another performance at 10:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Tickets are $8-$12, $4 Thursday with college/military ID and $4 Sunday for bar and restaurant worker appreciation.
