Comedian Jamie Lissow went to law school — for two weeks. “I got my first paying gig,” he explains. “I got $50 to do five minutes. Up until then I had no idea you could paid for doing comedy. I thought it was a hobby.” He took a year off from law school, which then turned into two years. Fifteen years on, he’s a headliner and has also appeared on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno as well as most of the other late night chat shows. “I’m a different guy than I was on the Tonight Show,” he says. “I like that set and I’m happy with it, but I feel like I’m so different now. I’m much better doing an entire set [than a five minute TV spot].” On stage he talks mostly about his life and his experiences such as living in New York City before moving back to Rochester, N.Y., where he has a fulltime radio gig. “I lived in a studio apartment in New York City,” he says. “It was so expensive. I don’t know if everyone knows what a studio apartment is, but it’s where you live in one room and pretend it’s awesome.” Through Sunday, Oct. 14.. $8-$12.
