“The last album dealt with life, death, love and sex, and those things still apply,” says comedian Michael Malone, who is currently working on a new hour of material. Previously, he talked about the loss of his stepfather, but last June he also lost his mother. “I’ve been trying to deal with that onstage as well as in my personal life,” he says. Malone’s grandmother still lives in his hometown of Marion, Ohio. “My mom and my grandma raised me,” he says. “Two very strong, independent women, and I’d never seen them cry or anything.” As Malone looked through some of his mother’s belongings, though, he began to well up, which his grandmother quickly noticed. “She came darting across the room and said, ‘Well, let it out if it makes you feel better.’ I’m not sure, but I think my grandma just called me a pussy.”
