When he was younger, Mike Stanley wasn’t sure how one became a comedian. “I thought you had to live in New York or Los Angeles and be a movie star,” Stanley says. The turning point came when he got older and ran into an old friend at a party. “He said ‘I’m doing stand-up comedy at the local club.’ ” Stanley was incredulous. “I’d never heard this guy say one thing that made me laugh, ever.” Quickly finding his comedy legs, Stanley was soon closing the open mic show, then getting feature work in Canada. “As soon as people started taking notice of me, I got up on stage as much as possible,” he says. “I’m still like that.”
