"I'm not like a goofy looking guy," explains comedian Mike Vecchione. "I look like a cop. I'm like 5-foot-8 and kind of have an aggressive look. It's kind of off-putting. I have to disarm the audience and let them know I'm not that guy, so I tell a couple of jokes about that." A former educator, Vecchione turned to comedy after he found himself bored on weeknights. After hanging out at a comedy club for a few weeks, and propelled by a bad break-up, he started doing open mics. He has since started taking acting lessons to help expand his career and has found that process helpful in opening up his comedy. While he does mostly evergreen stuff, he’s not afraid to dabble in current events. "I had a bunch of stuff on Egypt, but that's kind of out of the news now. I like that stuff, and it can lead you into other things that are not time sensitive. It's just fun, it keeps things fresh doing topical material." Vecchione performs at Go Bananas in Montgomery Thursday-Sunday.
