“The last time I was through Cincinnati, I was probably a much happier soul,” reports comedian Roy Wood Jr. “(My act now) is more about things that make me want to punch walls. It could be something as simple as paying for extra sauce when I order chicken nuggets. I still consider that to be one the greatest travesties in this country in terms of just extorting the workingman. It’s worse than the $50 for luggage.” Condiment issues aside, things are going well for the Houston native. His prank calls continue to be syndicated to dozens of radio markets, and they’ve been featured on Jamie Foxx’s satellite radio program.

On stage he’s been talking more about sports. “I was ragging on my buddies who are big fans of Michael Phelps,” he says. “I think what he’s doing is good for the country, but you’d still be hard pressed to get somebody to put swimming on at a sports bar on a Sunday afternoon against the first round of the NFL playoffs. If you want swimming to compete with football you have to put a gator in the pool.” Roy Wood Jr. performs at The Funny Bone on the Levee Thursday-Sunday. Tickets are $14-$16.
