Though he moved away when he was nine, comedian Tom Segura always looks forward to coming back to Cincinnati. “I definitely want to have some chili while I’m there,” he says, “and see some family.” Segura has just released his first album, called Thrilled. Whereas some comics start from scratch after a new release, Segura knows the crowd still wants to hear the familiar hits. “I’m working on a new hour,” he explains, “but I don’t want to give people an hour of ‘hey, I’m working this stuff out.’ There’s a good chunk of new stuff (in the set) and then there’s stuff that’s on the album.” Most of the material is based on simple daily observations. “I was in Atlantic City a few weeks ago,” he reports. “That place is awful. Have you seen Jersey Shore? It’s really like that, except that when you’re there you can’t turn it off.” TV actually offers little relief. “Have you seen Steven Segal’s show Lawman? It’s baffling. In every episode he’s an expert in a new field. He’s one those guys that has expertise in everything—-‘yeah I’ve worked with dogs for twenty years’——which I think is the most annoying quality in a human being. He makes me crazy.” Tom Segura performs at The Funny Bone on the Levee through Sunday. Showtimes are 8 p.m. Thursday; 8 p.m. and 10:15 p.m. Friday; 7:30 p.m. and 10 p.m. Saturday and 6:30 p.m. Sunday.
