"I’m a comedian, so I’m never anywhere permanently," Tyrone Hawkins says, chatting on the phone from Seattle. He has spent the past few weeks there visiting family and friends and performing at some of the area clubs. A 1989 graduate of the School for Creative and Performing Arts here in Cincinnati, Hawkins began his comedy career at the famous Seattle Underground. “I moved back in 2003, and Go Bananas welcomed me.”

He now lives in L.A., where he’s hoping to land some television spots and work with some of the folks he’s formed relationships with over the years. Meanwhile, he’s headlining clubs from coast to coast. When he’s not performing, Hawkins is a true student of stand-up. “I like sittin’ back, watching and learning how to solve the riddle. How to get that Rubik’s Cube back to having the same colors on all sides.” He likens stand-up to another popular California pastime: “It’s like surfing and catching a good wave.”

Through Sunday, March 31. $8-$14. 8410 Market Place Lane, Montgomery, 513-984-9288, gobananascomedy.com.
