The French Apache tango; one Appalachian family’s migration from Kentucky to Hamilton, Ohio; musical chairs, telephone and tag; a woman’s broken heart; a soloist pitted again nine other dancers ... these are just a few of the choreographic ideas tossed around during this weekend’s “Choreographers Without Companies,” presented by Contemporary Dance Theater.
By tradition, new and reworked versions of short works by new and established regional dance artists who gather their casts especially for these performances delightfully co-exist during this varied annual showcase. Choreographers whose voices, styles and visions make up this season’s lineup are Yellow Springs’ Tricia Gelmini and Melissa Heston, Cincinnati’s Diane Germaine, nationally-acclaimed Demetrius Klein, award-winning Ka-Ron Brown Lehman and first-time contributions from Kori Martodam and Dayton’s Ashley Powell.
Performances are at 8:30 p.m. June 11 and 12 at Jarson-Kaplan Theater in the Aronoff Center for the Arts downtown.
