Exhale Dance Tribe, with its contemporary Jazz and Modern flavor, continues to carve a unique and ever-stylish niche in the Cincinnati area dance scene with its latest work, Mannequin. A trio of nontraditional performances — or perhaps we should say movement installations — takes place Saturday inside the Aronoff Center’s Fifth Third Theater, where the black box space sets the stage for a rather free-form show. Instead of being seated, audience members circulate among various staged “scenes” of idiosyncratic dance in a loose narrative. “The dancers are personifying that frozen mannequin feel,” says Exhale Co-Artistic Director Missy Lay Zimmer (who co-founded the company with husband Andrew Hubbard). “But through love, all that dissolves; they escape and become warm and free, more truly alive.” Expect the feminine flair of these moving, living works of art to be accentuated by funky hairstyles from Shane Weber and costumes designed by Katie Iles, a University of Cincinnati College of Design, Architecture, Art and Planning student.
6, 7:30 and 9 p.m. Saturday. $19.25. 650 Walnut St., Downtown, 513-621-ARTS, exhaledancetribe.com.
